Conservative Groups Planning Rallies in Gwangju Next Month Over "May 18 Distortion and Disparagement"

As the 45th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement approaches, conservative groups that have previously promoted claims distorting and disparaging the May 18 movement are announcing plans to hold rallies in Gwangju.

According to the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station on the 29th, the conservative group Turn Right recently filed a notice with the police for a rally. The rally is scheduled to take place on May 18 at the entrance to the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery in Buk-gu, Gwangju. The exact number of participants and the scale of the rally have not yet been confirmed.

Turn Right, a conservative group, has held rallies every May in front of the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery, demanding the disclosure of the list of May 18 merit recipients and causing conflict with local citizens.

On May 2, the Headquarters for Correcting the Republic of Korea, led by Pastor Jun Kwanghoon, is also planning to hold the "Ten Million Rally to Save the Nation" in front of Gwangju Station. It is reported that Pastor Jun, who has been indicted for repeated distortion and disparagement of the May 18 movement, will participate in the rally along with about 100 members.
