A Time-Travel Festival to the Joseon Dynasty
Experience the '2025 Yangju Mok Festival Grand Celebration & Defend Yangju Gwanna' at the Yangju Gwanna Site
During the upcoming Children's Day week, the Yangju Gwanna site will be transformed into a special time-travel stage to the Joseon Dynasty.
On April 29, Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will host the '2025 Yangju Mok Festival Grand Celebration & Defend Yangju Gwanna' from May 4 to 5 at the Yangju Gwanna site and surrounding area. This event will feature a variety of programs blending tradition and modernity, promising unforgettable memories for the whole family.
The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. on May 4, turning the Yangju Gwanna site into a vibrant Joseon-era marketplace. On this day, the 'Yangju Mok Festival Grand Celebration' will offer a flea market, an air bounce play zone, traditional culture experience booths, food trucks, and many other attractions.
In particular, in front of the Dongheon, the fusion gugak band 'Arihyeon' will perform, along with a fantastic show by a Joseon-era magician, captivating both the eyes and ears of visitors. In front of the Oesammun, gate guards dressed in military uniforms will line up to reenact the changing of the guard ceremony, with the person portraying the Yangju Moksa presiding over the ritual, enhancing the immersive experience.
Additionally, the 'Nae-a' building will be transformed into the 'Yangju Moksa's Teahouse,' where actors dressed as Joseon-era figures will greet visitors. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about history firsthand through a variety of traditional cultural experiences prepared in each room.
At the 'Seohaenggak,' a 'Yangju Mok Excavation Experience Zone' will be available for children, while the 'Visitor Center' will offer a range of sensory programs, including building Daemo Fortress, artifact assembly, and VR experiences.
As a special event, the first 50 visitors wearing hanbok will receive a 'Yangju Mok Waterball' souvenir. Taking photos while strolling around the Gwanna site in hanbok is expected to create even more memorable moments for Children's Day.
On May 5, Children's Day, family-oriented participatory programs will continue. The mission-based experiential play 'All Together, One Lap Around Yangju Gwanna,' which requires advance reservation, will allow families to experience the Joseon Dynasty together by completing various missions such as solving puzzles, competing in traditional games, archery, and making traditional snacks.
There will also be mask-making and mask dance movement workshops in collaboration with the Yangju Byeolsandae Nori Preservation Society, providing a fun way to naturally learn about traditional culture through play.
A Yangju City official stated, "Through this festival, the Yangju Gwanna site will become a living space that connects citizens with history," adding, "We hope that during Children's Day week, families will have a meaningful time experiencing the Joseon Dynasty together, laughing and learning as one."
