"Thorough Disaster Prevention"...Mayor Oh Unseok of Dobong-gu Conducts Safety Inspection at Multi-Use Sports Facility

On April 28, Oh Unseok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, visited the Changdong Culture and Sports Center, a multi-use sports facility, to conduct a safety inspection aimed at preventing serious accidents.

The Changdong Culture and Sports Center, which opened in 2005, is equipped with various facilities including a swimming pool, fitness center, and performance hall. The number of users reaches approximately 1.8 million annually and about 5,000 daily.

This inspection was carried out as part of the "Safety Guardian, Mayor's Safety Round" initiative, with the goal of preventing safety accidents in advance, such as the recent incident involving the fall of a structure at a baseball stadium.

The "Safety Guardian, Mayor's Safety Round" is a program in which the mayor personally leads on-site safety inspections, identifies potential hazards, and promptly addresses them.

The inspection team included Oh Unseok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, relevant district departments, and the Facilities Management Corporation. Following an on-site briefing by the head of the department in charge, the team reviewed the overall safety management status of facilities on each floor of the Changdong Culture and Sports Center.

In particular, the team focused on the safety management methods for structures at risk of falling and the securing of evacuation routes in emergencies. They also checked whether safety and health education for facility managers and training for the prevention of serious accidents were being properly implemented.

On this day, Mayor Oh Unseok emphasized to relevant departments and facility managers, "Since this is a sports facility used by many people, please identify risk factors in advance to prevent accidents, and thoroughly inspect the safety of facilities and structures so that not a single accident leads to a serious disaster."

Since March, the district has been conducting weekly inspections at 198 directly managed and contracted worksites to prevent serious industrial and public accidents. This month, a total of three job stress reduction education sessions and virtual reality (VR) simulation trainings were conducted for district supervisors. Intensive safety inspections for 68 facilities, including care facilities, are scheduled to be completed within this month.
