Controversy Erupts Over "Excel Broadcast," Seo Responds
"I Didn't Create the Debt, But I Am Partially Responsible"
Voice actress and broadcaster Yoori Seo, who recently appeared on the so-called "Excel broadcast" and became the center of controversy, has revealed that she is facing financial difficulties following her divorce. The "Excel broadcast" is a program in which fans compete by sending donations to streamers, creating a ranking system.
Previously, on the previous day, Yoori Seo participated in a joint streaming Excel broadcast at Soop (SOOP). During the broadcast, at the request of other streamers, she performed voice impressions, recreating the voices of in-game characters. Seo was moved to tears after receiving a large donation from fans.
The Excel broadcast publicly displays in real time the donation rankings of participating streamers, creating a competitive environment. It is named "Excel broadcast" because its format resembles that of the Microsoft Excel program.
However, as controversy arose among some internet users regarding Seo's participation in the broadcast, Seo posted on her social networking service (SNS) account on April 28, stating, "I ask that you refrain from amplifying or sensationalizing unverified information."
She continued, "I hope you can view this without prejudice. I have continued to engage in various activities, including game voice recording and appearances on terrestrial TV programs." However, she explained, "Due to debts incurred during the process of ending past relationships, not all situations have been fully resolved yet."
Seo referred to her ex-husband as X and said, "In particular, I was supposed to receive a settlement payment from X by the end of December last year, but after X filed for bankruptcy, I have not received a single cent back, which has made things even more difficult." She added, "I do not wish to go through bankruptcy or rehabilitation procedures. Although I did not create these debts myself, I believe I am partially responsible, and I will do my best to take responsibility until the end."
She went on to say, "I do not believe that what is commonly called 'Excel' is something to be so proud of. I know that. Reality is reality." She emphasized, "However, that does not give anyone the right to mock or ridicule others carelessly. I am swallowing my resentment and taking responsibility more sincerely than anyone else."
Seo lamented, "I hope people understand that a single careless word or a casually written sentence can ruin someone's day or break their spirit."
Meanwhile, Seo married former MBC producer Choi Byunggil in 2019, but revealed in March last year that they were undergoing divorce mediation. The marriage lasted five years. It was reported that the divorce mediation process was concluded in early June of the same year.
