Dongdaemun-gu Establishes Fire Safety Management Plan for Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities

Strengthening Fire Response with Fire Safety Ordinance, Equipment Deployment, and Initial Training

Dongdaemun-gu Establishes Fire Safety Management Plan for Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pilhyeong) announced on April 28 that it has established the "2025 Electric Vehicle Charging Facility Fire Safety Management Plan" to prevent fires involving electric vehicles and charging facilities.

The district enacted an ordinance on September 26, 2024, to respond to electric vehicle fires, prompted by the electric vehicle fire at an apartment complex in Cheongna International City, Incheon in 2024. In addition, Dongdaemun-gu signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dongdaemun Fire Station and the police station on August 26, 2024, to establish a proactive response system.

The newly established fire safety management plan further details these measures, focusing on strengthening fire prevention, building a rapid initial response system, and establishing a culture of safety and management system, with the goal of creating a safe and convenient electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

According to the plan, the district will promote a project to support the installation of safety facilities in electric vehicle charging zones within apartment complexes. In the first half of the year, Dongdaemun-gu, together with the Dongdaemun Fire Station and Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, will inspect electric vehicle charging facilities in multi-use facilities.

In addition, to ensure swift initial action in the event of a fire, the district will regularly conduct education and training for managers of apartment complexes and public facilities, and will also focus on promoting fire safety guidelines.

District Mayor Lee Pilhyeong stated, "We will thoroughly prepare from prevention to response in order to alleviate residents' concerns about electric vehicle fires."
