Kim Dongyeon to Hold First "Provincial Administration Review Meeting" After Returning on 29th Following Democratic Party Primary

Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who had run in the presidential primary of the Democratic Party of Korea, will return to his gubernatorial duties on the 29th.

On the 28th, Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim would officially return to work on the 29th, and his first official schedule would be a "Provincial Administration Review Meeting" at 2 p.m. in the Seohui Hall of the provincial government building. Governor Kim has also taken an additional day of leave for a campaign disbandment ceremony scheduled to be held in Seoul on the same day.

The meeting will be attended by Kim Sungjung, the First Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs, administrative advisors, and key directors of departments and bureaus. They plan to review the progress of key tasks for the 8th popularly elected administration and assess the status of disaster response and recovery efforts.

Governor Kim participated in the Democratic Party primary while retaining his gubernatorial position. With his return, he is expected to proceed with appointments to major posts, including the Second Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs and the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs.

The position of Second Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs has remained vacant for over 40 days since Oh Seok, the former vice governor, retired with honors on the 17th of last month. Coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is required for this appointment.

The position of Vice Governor for Economic Affairs also needs to be filled, as Ko Youngin, the former vice governor, left the post to join Governor Kim's campaign. Appointments are also expected to be expedited for four other key positions directly under the governor?including Chief of Staff and Chief Policy Officer?which have remained vacant due to participation in the campaign.

Prompt handling of this year's first supplementary budget proposal is also an urgent task.

Previously, Gyeonggi Province had planned to submit the first supplementary budget proposal during the temporary session of the provincial council this month (from the 8th to the 15th). However, due to friction with the council over the formation of the ruling-opposition-government cooperation committee, the submission has been postponed to the regular session in June.
