Ten Island Dishes Selected for the Expo
Recipes and More to Be Introduced via YouTube and Social Media
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung) has officially launched efforts to promote the unique island food culture of Yeosu in preparation for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
To this end, the city has selected ten dishes through surveys of island residents and public officials, based on the "Yeosu Island Food White Paper" produced last year. Related videos will be sequentially uploaded every two weeks on the "Yeosu Story" YouTube channel.
In particular, these video contents will not only be available on the YouTube channel but will also be broadcast via promotional video vehicles at major tourist attractions in Yeosu, such as Odongdo Island and at local festival sites.
The ten selected island dishes include Gobeoksun Muchim (gooseneck barnacle salad), Kkomak Muchim (seasoned cockle salad), Bajirak Kkoji (clam skewers), Byeongeo Jorim (braised butterfish), Seodae Hoe Muchim (seasoned raw tonguefish), Ssuk Hwajeon (mugwort rice pancakes), Jangeo Tang (eel soup), Totbap (seaweed rice), Parae Kimchi (green laver kimchi), and Haesam Mulhoe (sea cucumber cold soup).
Previously, the city introduced a card news series featuring foods traditionally enjoyed by residents of five major islands within the city (Geumodo, Yeondo, Gaedo, Geomundo, and Chodo) through the "Yeosu Story" YouTube channel, the official blog of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, and various social media platforms. The card news includes recipes for regional traditional dishes such as Bangpung Namul (coastal hog fennel greens), Gobeoksun Muchim, Hangakku Galchi Guk (special hairtail soup), Jeonbokcho (abalone vinegar dish), and Gasari Muchim (seaweed salad).
Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, under the theme "Islands: Connecting the Sea and the Future," is scheduled to take place from September 5 to November 4 next year, and will showcase a variety of marine and island-related content centered around Yeosu's islands.
