Ordinance Amendment on Senior Employment Passes Committee Review
Institutional Foundation Established to Support Social Participation and Independence
Gwangju Bukgu is establishing an institutional foundation to support not only senior employment policies but also the overall social activities of the elderly.
The "Ordinance on Supporting Senior Job Creation (Full Amendment)" proposed by Hyejin Son, a member of the Gwangju Bukgu Council (Progressive Party, Yongbong, Maegok, Ilgok, and Samgak-dong), passed the Economic Welfare Committee review on the 28th. The main focus of this amendment is to expand the scope of the existing ordinance in line with the newly enacted "Act on Support for Senior Employment and Social Activities."
The ordinance bill includes provisions to operate senior employment programs more systematically and to ensure that the experience and knowledge of seniors can be utilized in society. The key points are: ▲changing the title of the ordinance, ▲establishing a support plan for seniors' social activities, ▲entrusting the operation of programs, and ▲prioritizing the purchase of products made by seniors. The ordinance is expected to be finalized after passing the Bukgu Council plenary session on the 30th.
Son stated, "I hope this will expand opportunities for seniors to participate in society and that the employment programs will serve as a stepping stone for economic independence, going beyond simply supporting their livelihoods."
