Namgu District in Daegu to Renovate 480m² of Small Alleyways Using Discarded Sidewalk Blocks

In 2025, Namgu District in Daegu plans to launch a new project that will use discarded sidewalk blocks, which are still in good condition and generated from public construction sites, to renovate small alleyways that have been neglected for a long time.

Although many local governments have implemented programs to share discarded sidewalk blocks, residents are often reluctant to participate because they must bear all related costs, such as transportation and installation.

Namgu District in Daegu to Renovate 480m² of Small Alleyways Using Discarded Sidewalk Blocks Discarded sidewalk blocks gathered by Daegu Namgu Office to renovate small alleyways.

In response, Namgu District in Daegu is, for the first time this year, providing a mobile administrative service that renovates even small private alleyways in front of homes through a small alleyway improvement project using discarded sidewalk blocks. The district will complete a demand survey in the first half of the year and will initially renovate 480 square meters across eight alleyways within the district as a pilot project, with plans to gradually expand the initiative.

Cho Jaegu, head of the Namgu District Office in Daegu, said, "Although this is a small project, I expect it will receive a positive response because it brings us closer to residents. There are also many positive effects, such as budget savings through resource recycling. We will continue to discover various projects that can address even minor inconveniences for residents up close, and do our best to make Namgu a vibrant and happy city."
