Up to 50% of Out-of-Pocket Costs Covered
2 Million Won for Women, 300,000 Won for Men
On April 28, the city of Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will implement a support program for the freezing of eggs and sperm for citizens expected to experience permanent infertility.
The city plans to subsidize 50% of the out-of-pocket costs for egg and sperm freezing for citizens who are expected to become permanently infertile due to medical reasons specified in Article 14 of the Enforcement Decree of the Mother and Child Health Act, such as reproductive organ removal surgery. The support will cover the costs of examinations, ovulation induction, freezing, and storage.
To apply, individuals must pay the procedure costs in advance, obtain supporting documents, and submit them to the local public health center within six months from the date of extraction. Women can receive up to 2 million won in support, while men can receive up to 300,000 won.
This support is available once in a lifetime, regardless of marital status. For more details, applicants can refer to the city's public health center website.
Lee Hyunki, head of the Seobuk-gu Public Health Center, stated, "Through this program, we hope to provide those who become permanently infertile for medical reasons with the opportunity for pregnancy and childbirth."
