Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province successfully concluded the "2nd Sunchang Seomjingang Trail Race" on the 26th at Yonggwolsan Mountain and the Seomjingang River area.

According to the county on the 28th, this event was designed as a healing sports event utilizing Sunchang's natural scenery. It featured two courses of 8 km and 21 km, and attracted about 800 participants from across the country who had contributed to the Hometown Love Donation program.

The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Kwan-young, Governor of North Jeolla Province, Chung Dong-young, National Assembly member, Choi Youngil, Mayor of Sunchang County, Kim Taeksoo, Chairman of Jeonbuk Domin Ilbo, Hwang Uiok, Chairman of Sunchang Honors Club, as well as other officials and figures from various sectors. All participants shared a meaningful time supporting Sunchang together and joining efforts for the development of the region.

This trail race was planned as a community-based event that went beyond a simple marathon by combining donation and urban-rural exchange. Eligibility to participate was granted to those who had donated at least 100,000 won to the county's Hometown Love Donation Fund. This added significant meaning by establishing a sustainable local support system, rather than just a one-time donation.

In fact, a total of 133 million won in donations was collected through this event. Participants also received a Sunchang County Resident ID Card and commemorative gifts, providing them with tangible benefits.

The race began at 8:00 a.m. with the start of the half course (21 km), followed by the opening ceremony at 8:40 a.m., and then the 8 km course started at 9:00 a.m., officially kicking off the main race. Skilled runners claimed victory in each course, with winners emerging in both the men's and women's divisions of the 8 km course.

Especially after the event, participants from the Jikjang-Gongjang Saemaeul Undong Moksong Association and Namboo University carried out plogging activities around Yangjicheon in Sunchang-eup. This was an initiative to clean up the local environment following the recently held "Sunchang Chamdurup Travel Festival," and served as a meaningful opportunity for participants to demonstrate their affection and concern for Sunchang through action.

Choi Youngil, Mayor of Sunchang County, said, "This Seomjingang Trail Race is a successful model that encompasses not only sports, but also the values of donation, love for the region, and urban-rural coexistence," and added, "We will continue to actively support this event so that it can become a healthy and sustainable event set against the natural backdrop of Sunchang."
