Gangjin County Achieves Remarkable Third Place Overall at the 64th Jeollanam-do Sports Festival

A Moving Drama of Overall Victories in Table Tennis, Billiards, and Cycling

The Gangjin County Sports Association of South Jeolla Province elevated its athletic reputation by achieving outstanding results at the 64th Jeollanam-do Sports Festival, which was held in Jangseong over four days from April 18 to 21.


According to the county on April 28, Gangjin participated in 21 official events at this year’s competition, including golf and archery. In the tournament events, Gangjin secured overall victories in both table tennis and billiards. In the record-based events, the cycling team won the overall championship, while the archery team achieved an impressive third place overall.

Excellent results continued in individual events as well. In cycling, Kim Jiho placed first in the men's division, and Kim Subin placed second in the women's division. In billiards, Cha Bokhun took second place in the carom category and also received the Best Player Award, while Lee Geumgu finished third in the pocket billiards category.


In table tennis, Kim Daekeun, Yoon Namsik, Lee Jaewon, and Choi Jinwoo won first place in the men's team event, with Choi Jinwoo also receiving the Best Player Award. In the women's division, Lee Mikyung, Kim Hyesuk, and Park Younghee achieved third place in the women's team event.


Gangjin athletes also excelled in track and field. In shot put, Moon Hyesol placed second, and in the 100-meter race, Heo Jungyun finished third.


Notably, Choi Jinwoo, who participated in the table tennis event for Gangjin County for the first time at the festival, received the Best Player Award and showcased outstanding skills as a native of Gangjin. In billiards, Cha Bokhun also received the Best Player Award in his first appearance. Additionally, Kim Jiho, representing Gangjin County Office, earned the Best Player Award, highlighting the discovery of new talent and strong performances across various events.


A Gangjin County Sports Association official stated, "We will work to discover even more talented athletes in preparation for the 65th Jeollanam-do Sports Festival, which will be held next year in Gurye."


Lee Byungdon, president of the Gangjin County Sports Association, said, "I applaud the fighting spirit and effort shown by our athletes at this competition. Together with County Governor Kang Jinwon, who has provided unwavering support, we will do our utmost to create a sports environment that engages all county residents. We also plan to continue advancing county sports and nurturing athletes through various sports support policies."
