First Achievement of Advanced Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) with the UK

The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on April 28 that it held a closing report session for the Korea-UK Digital Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) in Seoul. Since September of last year, the two countries have been conducting joint research to explore ways to cooperate on international standards in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and semiconductors.

The KSP has primarily focused on sharing Korea's development experience with developing countries. This project marks the first time the Ministry of Economy and Finance has carried out a KSP with a developed country. The ministry explained, "This KSP is a new attempt that differs both in its target and its approach. The research topics have also expanded beyond Korea's past experience to address recent international issues and future-oriented themes. In addition, the research methodology has evolved from policy consultation to joint research methods aimed at detailed cooperation."

During this project, the two sides assessed their respective strategies, technological capabilities, and management systems in the areas of AI safety, quantum technology, and next-generation semiconductors. Joint research results, cooperation plans for each field, and policy recommendations were also discussed among researchers and experts.

Choi Jiyeong, Director-General for International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated, "This KSP has contributed to mutual understanding and the pursuit of shared interests between the two countries," and called for continued cooperation through joint research in the field of 6th generation mobile communications (6G). Based on this research, the two countries plan to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of Korea and the British Standards Institution (BSI) to strengthen cooperation in AI, quantum, and 6G fields.
