Results Achieved Through Proactive Negotiations
Including Coordination Requests Led by Namyangju City
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwangdeok) announced on April 28 that the 'Maseok~Sangbong Shuttle Train' will open as scheduled on May 1.
This project, launched as part of the metropolitan transportation improvement measures for Wangsu District in Namyangju in December 2020, aims to enhance transportation convenience for Gyeongchun Line passengers by introducing shuttle trains during commuting hours ahead of the new city's move-in.
Last April, Namyangju City requested the Metropolitan Transportation Committee (hereafter referred to as the Committee) to coordinate the Maseok~Sangbong Shuttle Train project to ensure its timely implementation. Thanks to swift coordination among the relevant agencies, the project achieved the milestone of opening as scheduled on the 1st of the following month.
Although the project initially faced difficulties due to disagreements among agencies regarding who would bear the operating costs, Mayor Joo Gwangdeok had previously expressed a firm commitment to the 'May 1 on-schedule opening' during the monthly meeting held on the 1st.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "Based on the city administration's policy to ensure the on-schedule opening of the Maseok~Sangbong Shuttle Train on May 1, we held multiple consultations with relevant agencies and quickly submitted a coordination request to the Committee, successfully leading the negotiations."
He further emphasized, "Through this achievement, we have realized a transportation administration that keeps promises made to citizens. Although there was no legal obligation, we took the initiative in negotiations to minimize inconvenience for citizens."
Namyangju City plans to continue prioritizing the resolution of citizens' transportation inconveniences. The city will actively discuss measures such as reducing train intervals and adding additional services in cooperation with Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and relevant agencies, so that all 740,000 citizens can enjoy more convenient transportation services.
