The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on April 28 that Sihoon Park, a third-year student at Gumi Kumo High School, was finally selected as a national representative in the shot put event at the '2025 Asian Athletics Championships Final Selection Trials' held in Gumi from April 20 to 23.
Sihoon Park achieved a record of 18.03 meters at this competition, ranking second overall across both the general and high school divisions, and earned the national team badge thanks to his top-tier performance. Through this selection, Park has gained a valuable opportunity to gain international experience and further strengthen his competitiveness.
This event was especially meaningful for the local community and the education sector, as it was held in Gumi, where Sihoon Park is currently attending school.
Sihoon Park has earned deep trust from his coaches and teammates through systematic training and perseverance, and his selection as a national representative is seen as the result of his personal efforts as well as a prime example of the success of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education's school athletics development system.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "Having a local student compete as a national representative at an international event held in Gumi is not just an achievement, but a meaningful demonstration of the success of Gyeongbuk's efforts to foster sports talent," and added, "We will continue to support school athletic teams and work to create an environment where student athletes can grow."
