Service Delays Due to Overwhelming Traffic Immediately After Online Reservations Open
On April 28 at around 9:30 a.m., users experienced delays accessing SK Telecom's online reservation system for USIM card replacement, which was set up in response to a USIM information leak incident.
When attempting to access the T World application that morning, users encountered an error message stating, "There are currently too many app users. Please use the T World mobile web." Even when accessing via the mobile web, a notification appeared saying, "There are currently too many users, causing delays in access." As of around 9:30 a.m., more than 12,600 people were waiting in line on the free USIM replacement application page.
Previously, SKT announced in a customer notice the day before that, "To prevent cyber intrusion damage, starting at 10:00 a.m. on April 28, we will offer free USIM replacement for interested customers at over 2,600 T World stores nationwide," and added, "Online reservations will also be accepted."
The free USIM replacement reservation system can be accessed via the webpage address, search portal sites, or the main banner on the T World homepage. After identity verification, customers can select their preferred store for replacement and submit a reservation request. Identity verification for the application is conducted through mobile phone authentication, during which the applicant's name, the first digits of their resident registration number, CAPTCHA security code, and customer phone number are confirmed.
Applicants can select their desired replacement store by searching for the store name or address on the application page. The system also provides a function to filter and search for stores currently accepting applications. When searching for a store, information such as the store's location, business hours, and contact details is displayed. At SKT agency locations, staff will check the applicant's ID and reservation confirmation text message before providing the new USIM card directly to the subscriber in person.
