KB Insurance Secures Exclusive Use Rights for Four New Special Riders

KB Insurance announced on the 28th that it has obtained a six-month exclusive use right from the General Insurance Association of Korea for four newly added special riders to its health insurance products, including the "KB 3.N.5 Smart Simple Health Insurance" launched this month.

The special riders granted exclusive use rights are: ▲ Liver Cancer Hepatic Arterial Chemoembolization Treatment Benefit ▲ Liver Cancer Hepatic Arterial Radioembolization Treatment Benefit ▲ Uterine Artery Embolization Treatment Benefit for Uterine Myoma and Adenomyosis ▲ 3D Printing Cranioplasty Surgery Benefit, totaling four types. These riders were developed by KB Insurance as an industry first, reflecting recent advances in medical technology, changing treatment trends, and actual coverage needs of patients.

The three "Embolization Treatment" riders provide annual coverage, limited to once per year, for patients with liver cancer (including metastatic cancer) and those with uterine myoma or adenomyosis, for hepatic arterial chemoembolization, hepatic arterial radioembolization, and uterine artery embolization, respectively. Embolization is a representative non-surgical treatment method that blocks blood flow to lesions by injecting drugs or micro-particles into blood vessels, and is used as an effective alternative for patients who are not suitable for surgery. Traditional health insurance has mainly focused on coverage for surgical treatments. However, these riders offer a practical non-surgical alternative for patients who cannot undergo surgery or for women of childbearing age who need to preserve the uterus, thereby expanding treatment options.

The "3D Printing Cranioplasty Surgery Benefit" is a rider that provides coverage, limited to the first occurrence, for patients with skull defects caused by trauma or cerebral hemorrhage who receive a custom-made implant produced using 3D printing technology. Although 3D-printed implants offer excellent treatment outcomes with lower risk of infection and complications, their high cost has made them a difficult choice for many patients. With this rider, patients can now receive appropriate treatment without worrying about the cost.

These new riders have been highly evaluated for their "progressiveness" in providing coverage beyond the existing surgery-centered insurance structure, "usefulness" in reflecting the realities of medical treatment on the ground, and "originality" as the first in the industry to commercialize such coverage. Based on about one and a half years of product planning, medical data analysis, and expert consultation, KB Insurance was recognized for its positive contribution to improving customers' quality of life and was granted a six-month exclusive use right.

Yoon Heeseung, Head of Long-term Product Division at KB Insurance, stated, "Obtaining this exclusive use right is the result of closely reflecting the changing medical environment and customers' actual treatment needs," adding, "We will continue to develop original and useful products that can meet a variety of needs in the future."
