UPS Batteries Optimized for AI Data Centers
Also Selected as a Finalist for "The Smarter E Award"
Samsung SDI is accelerating its entry into the global market with new energy storage system (ESS) batteries designed for the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
On April 28, Samsung SDI announced its participation in "InterBattery Europe 2025," which will be held at Messe Munich in Munich, Germany. Taking place over three days from May 7 to 9, InterBattery Europe is one of the events within "The Smarter E Europe," the largest energy industry exhibition in Europe. This year, more than 200 domestic and international companies are participating.
At this exhibition, Samsung SDI will focus on showcasing its ESS battery products under the slogan "InCelligent Life, Always ON," which means "Our daily lives upgraded by always-connected battery technology."
The highlight of this exhibition is the new "U8A1" battery for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. UPS is an essential system that supplies power to facilities such as data centers in the event of a blackout. The U8A1 combines ultra-high output characteristics with high energy density, delivering optimal efficiency even in limited spaces. It is a product aimed at AI data centers, which are rapidly expanding in response to the explosive growth in demand for generative AI.
In addition, Samsung SDI will exhibit its power ESS solution, the "Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.5." The SBB is a product that installs battery cells, modules, and racks inside a 20-foot container box. It features EDI (Electrolyte Direct Injection) fire suppression technology, which boasts advanced safety.
Samsung SDI is the only domestic battery company to be named a finalist for "The Smarter E Award" during this event. The Smarter E Award recognizes innovative products and technologies in five categories: energy storage, e-mobility, photovoltaics, smart energy, and outstanding projects. Products evaluated as top technologies in each category are first selected, and then the final award winners are announced from among them.
Samsung SDI's new high-output UPS battery U8A1 has been named a finalist in the "energy storage" category, while its thermal propagation prevention safety technology (No TP) has been named a finalist in the "e-mobility" category.
A Samsung SDI representative stated, "At this exhibition, we will present an ESS battery portfolio optimized for a wide range of customer usage environments," adding, "With Samsung SDI's ESS batteries, you will be able to glimpse a daily life that is always connected."
