Songpa District (District Mayor Seo Gangseok) announced that it will host the 'Songpa Children Festa' on May 3, 2025, at Seoul Nori Madang and around Seokchon Lake in celebration of Children's Day.
The 'Songpa Children Festa' is a large-scale children's festival organized for Family Month in May, designed so that the whole family can enjoy watching performances, eating, experiencing, and having fun together. Following last year, the event has again been selected for the Seoul City Private International Cultural Exchange Project, and is being prepared on an extra-large scale filled with performances, hands-on activities, and food offerings.
This year, a variety of performances that stimulate children's imagination will be showcased, including shows by international art troupes, comic ballet, belly dance, bubble shows, and musical theater. In particular, a special event to commemorate Children's Day will be held: a project where children's own drawings and photos will be exhibited at the 'Hosugyo Gallery', creating meaningful memories for the young participants.
On the festival day at Seoul Nori Madang, the festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a pre-ceremony performance by the Songpa Cultural Foundation's Dream Dance Troupe. The opening ceremony will feature lively stages where children can showcase their talents, including performances by the district's Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Boys and Girls Choir, and the marching band of Seoul National University Elementary School.
Subsequently, a diverse lineup of performances will continue until 6 p.m., including the 'Children's Film Concert' by Soreal Orchestra, a magic bubble show, a performance by the Mongolian art troupe 'Aipari Art Troupe', the children's musical 'The Grasshopper Who Loved the Queen Ant', and 'The Strange Chamber Orchestra', which combines comedy and classical music.
On the waterfront stages of Seokchon Lake's East and West Lake, vibrant performances will be held from noon, including a live drawing show by artist Hong Wonpyo, puppet shows, bubble shows, and circus comedy acts.
There will also be hands-on programs to satisfy children's five senses. Starting at 11 a.m. throughout the venue, various activities such as face painting, caricature drawing, nail art, and pipe cleaner crafts will be available. In addition, a 'Strong Mind, Growing Happiness' program for children's mental health and a photo zone will be set up.
A variety of food options will also be available. Children participating in the festival will be offered free hamburger steak and meatball cutlet provided by Yeoljeong Gukbap, and food trucks selling popular snacks such as churros, cotton candy, and Dakgangjeong will be operated for a fee.
All programs are open for on-site participation. Families wishing to join the opening ceremony can register in advance on the Songpa Women's Cultural Center website. The first 100 registrants will receive a Barun Chicken voucher, and the next 100 will be given souvenirs such as cotton candy and balloons.
In addition, the district is making every effort to ensure the safety of the festival. On the day of the event, about 200 safety personnel will be deployed to focus on preventing accidents. Given that many children will attend, free child safety wristbands will be provided, and a cooperative system will be established with related agencies such as the police and fire departments to ensure complete safety for children.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "We have prepared an extra-large festival where families can freely play and have fun together in celebration of Children's Day," and added, "We hope many people will come to enjoy the lively performances and have a happy time with their children."
