On April 27 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump stated regarding his tariff policy, "When tariffs are imposed, many people's income taxes could be significantly reduced or even completely eliminated."
President Trump made this statement in a post on his social networking service, Truth Social, adding, "These benefits will be concentrated on people with annual incomes of $200,000 or less."
President Trump also said, "A large number of jobs are already being created. New factories and manufacturing facilities are currently under construction or in the planning stages," and added, "This is a great opportunity for America. An External Revenue Service, which will collect tariffs, is scheduled to be launched."
President Trump's remarks are seen as an attempt to highlight that the benefits of his tariff policy, which he has been pushing since the start of his second term, will return to the United States, and to reverse the increasingly negative public opinion.
President Trump's approval rating has been on a downward trend in various polls released ahead of the 100th day of his second term on April 29. In particular, more than 6 out of 10 people are opposed to his tariff policy, according to survey results.
