Andong City (Mayor Kwon Gichang) canceled or postponed various festivals and events due to the large-scale wildfire that occurred last month, and the sharp decline in tourists has caused significant difficulties for the local economy. To revitalize the region, the city launched the "Andong Travel Donation Campaign" in Myeongdong, the gateway and top destination for tourism in Korea.

Jung-gu supported this campaign and joined hands with Andong City on its journey toward daily recovery. The event was held in front of the Myeongdong Theater, and Jung-gu assisted with maintaining street order, cooperating with street vendors, and cleaning up the area.

About 50 citizens of Andong, including Mayor Kwon Gichang, the Andong Market Merchants Association, the Tourism Council, and the Andong Residents Association in Seoul, participated in the event. Mayor Kim Gilseong of Jung-gu also visited the site to lend his support.

Mayor Kim, together with Mayor Kwon, personally handed out Hahoetal masks, the campaign's commemorative gifts, to event participants and interacted with citizens. In addition, Myeongdong Welfare Association, a group of street vendor operators in Myeongdong, delivered a donation of 15,550,000 KRW to Mayor Kwon for wildfire victims in the Andong area.

The event featured a demonstration of Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori (traditional mask dance), traditional liquor tastings, K-POP performances, and a street parade, receiving an enthusiastic response from both foreign tourists and citizens visiting Myeongdong.

Previously, the district had delivered a total of 42,010,000 KRW (11,650,000 KRW in cash donations and 30,360,000 KRW worth of daily necessities and goods) to Andong City for wildfire recovery efforts.

Mayor Kim Gilseong said, "I would like to express my condolences and encouragement to the citizens of Andong who suffered great damage from the wildfire," adding, "I hope that many people will visit Andong and Gyeongnam this spring with the mindset that visiting wildfire-affected areas is itself a form of donation."
