Joint Campaign Speech for Metropolitan Area, Gangwon, and Jeju Primaries
"I Will Appoint Only the Competent, Regardless of Political Affiliation or Region"
Lee Jae Myung, former leader and presidential pre-candidate of the Democratic Party, stated on the 27th, "I will stand on the side of the people, not on one side or the other. I will appoint only those who are competent, regardless of their political affiliation or region."
Lee made these remarks during a joint campaign speech for the Metropolitan Area, Gangwon, and Jeju regional primaries held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on the afternoon of the same day. He declared, "I will succeed Kim Dae Jung, Roh Moo Hyun, and Moon Jae In to establish the fourth democratic government," and emphasized, "For Lee Jae Myung, public office is not a place to enjoy honor or power."
He continued, "It is simply a position of authority and responsibility to work for the people as a public servant," stressing, "The only standards for the Lee Jae Myung administration will be the people, their livelihoods, and the Republic of Korea."
Lee stated, "What Korea needs now is a competent captain ready to take the helm immediately, a prepared president. I, Lee Jae Myung, have turned crises into opportunities and overcome adversity to stand here today. If you give me a chance, together with one million public officials, I will show you a completely new Korea, a true Korea."
He added, "Now is the time to move beyond our differences, unite our strength, and devote ourselves to recovery, growth, integration, and the happiness of the people." He continued, "The Korea in which we live and where our descendants will live forever stands at a crossroads: whether to miss the opportunity and fall, or seize the opportunity and soar. I will blaze a new trail on uncharted paths and lead the world."
Regarding the Jeju 4·3 Incident, he said, "For perpetrators of state violence crimes, the statute of limitations should be abolished so that they can be punished at any time while they are alive, and the civil statute of limitations should also be abolished so that their descendants can be held accountable within the scope of inherited property." He emphasized, "Even if it is late, we must thoroughly uncover the truth and hold those responsible to account, so that no one can ever dream of committing state violence crimes again."
Lee stated, "Gyeonggi Province, which nurtured the politician Lee Jae Myung; Gangwon Province, which made special sacrifices for national security?both have long suffered from the threat of war and the regulations of border areas, but now we must transform them into the center of inter-Korean peace and economy." He promised, "I will provide special compensation commensurate with the special sacrifices endured by the people of northern Gyeonggi and Gangwon."
He also said, "Incheon is a historic city of Haebulyangsu (meaning 'the sea does not reject any water,' symbolizing a city that embraces all people without exclusion), which opened the door to modernization and accepted everything. I will make Incheon, the root of Korea's modernization and economic development, a hub for international logistics and transportation, turning it into a driving force for growth and recovery." He continued, "Seoul, a metropolitan city that competes for top global rankings, will develop into an international city counted among the world's leading economic and cultural centers."
