Korean Medical Association Holds Regular General Assembly in Daejeon
Chairman of the General Assembly: "We Must Break Away from Past Methods"
Kim Taekwoo, President of the Korean Medical Association, stated on the 27th, "We will secure policy leadership to ensure that healthcare pledges made during the presidential election period do not lead to further deterioration of the medical system."
At the 77th Regular General Assembly of the Korean Medical Association held at the Daejeon Convention Center on this day, President Kim said, "It is more important than ever to unite the strength of the medical community in order to correct failed healthcare policies and to reestablish them in the right direction."

He added, "We are carefully preparing measures to respond to the establishment of a public medical school," and continued, "We are also expediting the preparation of legislation to shorten the service period for military doctors and public health doctors." He further stated, "We will actively respond to bills introduced in the National Assembly from the earliest stages," and requested cooperation from the members of the National Assembly attending the assembly.
Attending the assembly as guests were Cho Seungrae, Jang Jongtae, and Hwang Jeonga of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Mi-ae of the People Power Party, Lee Junseok and Lee Jooyoung of the Reform Party, and Yoo Deukwon, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Daejeon Metropolitan City.
Additionally, President Kim emphasized his intention to value the opinions of future generations, including residents and medical students, by stating, "We intend to grant associate membership status to medical students as well." He pointed out, "In order to rebuild the healthcare system, which has been severely damaged by the medical corruption crisis, it is essential to first restore trust between the government and the medical community." He further stressed, "The ministers and vice ministers of the relevant departments responsible for increasing medical school admissions must demonstrate accountability themselves."
Kim Kyowoong, Chairman of the General Assembly, appealed to the members, saying, "We must break away from the ways of expressing opinions used in the past." Chairman Kim suggested, "Methods intended only for our own league have become meaningless," and advised, "As in the slogan, 'Until the people say OK!', we must prioritize the fundamental attitude of doctors who reach out to the public."
