Confirmation of the "Inevitable Candidate" Theory in the Political Stronghold
In the Democratic Party's primary for selecting its presidential candidate in the Honam region, former party leader Lee Jae Myung, a preliminary candidate, achieved a landslide victory with a vote share of 88.69%. Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong Yeon ranked second, while former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyung Soo came in third.

On the afternoon of the 26th, at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju, Lee Jae Myung secured first place in the Honam regional primary, receiving 178,090 out of 208,091 votes cast. The Democratic Party announced these results, which include the votes of party members and delegates from Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla, at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center in Gwangju on the same day.
Following his dominant performance in the previous Chungcheong and Yeongnam regional primaries, where he recorded a cumulative vote share of 89.56%, Lee Jae Myung once again confirmed his frontrunner status by achieving an overwhelming victory in his stronghold of Honam.
On this day, Governor Kim Dong Yeon received 14,889 votes, and former Governor Kim Kyung Soo received 7,830 votes.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party will hold a joint speech meeting for the Gangwon, Seoul metropolitan area, and Jeju regions at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province the following day, concluding the regional primary schedule. The final presidential candidate will be selected at this event.
