On April 24 (local time), UK media outlets such as Metro reported that Liam Carter, 34, from Aberdeen, Scotland, found a lottery ticket that had not been checked for winnings while organizing his late mother's belongings on April 16. The ticket was inside an envelope folded in a kitchen drawer. A note on the envelope read, "Saturday draw, don't forget."

Carter explained that his mother used to buy lottery tickets every week. He said, "I almost ignored it, but something compelled me to check." He added, "On the draw date, the 19th, I checked the ticket using the lottery app and received a notification that it was a winner." He matched five numbers on the ticket and won more than 18,000 pounds (about 34 million won).

After calling the lottery operator to confirm the win, Carter said, "I was completely frozen during the phone call," and described the experience as surreal. He added, "My mother always told me, 'If you win the lottery, the prize is yours.' Although she never knew about the win, this ticket feels like the last gift she left me." Carter said he plans to use the prize money as a deposit for an apartment, adding, "It's something my mother always hoped for."

The lottery operator, sharing this story, commented, "A lottery ticket can mean more than just money; it can carry meaning and emotion as well."
