At approximately 12:08 p.m. on April 26, a fire broke out at a mart in Seongan-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan, and was completely extinguished after about one hour and 30 minutes. The fire resulted in the complete destruction of one building belonging to the mart.
Although there were people inside the building, including employees and customers, everyone evacuated to a safe location, and no casualties occurred.
However, one building of the mart was completely burned, and a large amount of black smoke spread to nearby residential areas, leading to a surge of reports from alarmed residents.
A total of 129 emergency calls related to this fire were received by the Ulsan Fire Headquarters on this day.
At 1:23 p.m., Ulsan City issued a disaster safety alert via text message, asking nearby residents to keep their windows closed and for vehicles to avoid the area around the fire scene.
The police and fire authorities currently presume that the fire started near the mart's warehouse. They plan to investigate the exact scale of the damage and the cause of the fire as soon as the remaining embers inside the building are cleared.
