Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on April 26 that it recently conducted a joint fire drill with Damyang Fire Station to improve initial response capabilities in case of fire and to raise fire safety awareness.
The drill was held in the parking lot in front of the Damyang County Health Center's screening clinic, with participation from more than 70 staff members including Kim Dongjin, the head of the health center, and six firefighters from Damyang Fire Station.
The exercise simulated a fire outbreak inside the health center, with procedures carried out as if in a real situation. These included the swift evacuation of visitors and vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, as well as fire reporting, initial fire suppression by the in-house fire brigade, rescue operations, and emergency restoration. In addition, the drill included guiding fire trucks to the scene and supporting firefighters, allowing the authorities to review and improve the joint public-private fire response system.
Kim Dongjin, head of the health center, stated, "This drill was a meaningful opportunity to help protect everyone's safety," and added, "We will continue to strengthen training so that all staff are familiar with their roles and can respond calmly and quickly in real situations."
Meanwhile, according to the Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities and Safety Management, as well as the Regulations on Fire Safety Management of Public Institutions, public institutions are required to conduct fire drills at least twice a year, with at least one of them held jointly with the fire station.
