According to reports from AP and AFP, around 8 a.m. on April 25 (local time), a small aircraft belonging to the Thai police crashed into the sea during training off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, south of Bangkok, Thailand.

According to the police, the aircraft was conducting a demonstration flight for parachute training at the time of the accident. Of the six police officers on board, five were killed and one was seriously injured.


The aircraft involved in the accident is believed to be a DHC-6 Twin Otter, a 20-seat aircraft manufactured by Viking Air of Canada.


Photos and videos of the accident, which have spread on social media, show the aircraft spiraling downward and crashing into the sea about 100 meters off the coast.


According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, initial investigations suggest that the aircraft experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff.


The authorities plan to analyze the aircraft’s black box to determine the cause of the crash.
