Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center, Gijang Post Office, and Busan Mojun Post Office Sign Agreement
to Promote the 'Life Respect Safe Village' Project
Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on April 25 that the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center and local post offices signed a business agreement on April 24 and will officially begin promoting the creation of the 'Life Respect Safe Village.'
The agreement was signed by the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center, Gijang Post Office, and Busan Mojun Post Office. Through this agreement, the participating organizations have agreed to actively cooperate in community life-saving activities, including identifying and connecting high-risk groups for suicide, conducting joint campaigns to promote life respect, and providing suicide prevention education.
They also plan to provide mental health screenings and counseling for postal workers to promote their mental well-being and to detect mental health risk groups early.
The 'Life Respect Safe Village' project utilizes local resources and networks to contribute to suicide reduction and to provide high-quality suicide prevention services for local residents. The villages are being established at the town and township level to foster a correct understanding of life respect and to create communities safe from suicide.
Beginning last year with Jeonggwan-eup and Ilgwang-eup, a total of 47 institutions from six sectors?healthcare, education, welfare, distribution and sales, local community, and public services?are participating in the project.
The county plans to gradually expand the number of participating institutions and to designate all towns and townships in the region as Life Respect Safe Villages by 2027.
Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "By cooperating with the post office, which is actively participating in public interest projects for the community, we will make Gijang County a safer and better place to live, free from suicide."
Since 2018, Gijang County has entrusted the operation of the Gijang County Mental Health Welfare Center to Haeundae Paik Hospital, and has been promoting various mental health improvement projects and suicide prevention initiatives, including intensive management programs for local residents with severe mental illness.
