Gwangju University is accelerating its efforts to become a global hub for AI education.

According to Gwangju University on April 25, President Kim Dongjin visited Cambodia the previous day and met with Vice Minister of Economy and Finance Hing Saphy to discuss ways to expand educational, technological, and cultural exchanges between the two countries. During the meeting, both sides explored various possibilities for cooperation, focusing on practical, skills-based education, AI-based projects, and the development of the tourism industry.

Both parties also agreed on the need to expand cultural exchanges for the joint development of the tourism industry. They shared the view that fostering mutual understanding between the peoples of both countries and pursuing practical cultural cooperation through experiential programs would be beneficial.

President Kim emphasized, "Gwangju University aims for education based on practical skills and technology, rather than theory. In particular, starting this year, we have partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch 'AI Makers,' a liberal arts course based on an AI platform, for the first time among domestic universities, thereby realizing practical digital education."

Vice Minister Hing Saphy stated, "Cambodia expects to realize development potential in various fields such as AI, IT, and education through exchanges with Korea. Technology-centered education for the younger generation will be key to the country's future development."

On the same day in the afternoon, Gwangju University visited the University of Economics and Finance (UEF) in Cambodia and signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening digital and technological capabilities and developing human resources. The two universities will pursue practical cooperation projects such as talent development, academic exchange, the establishment of digital education platforms, and the operation of internship programs linked to local industries. They also agreed to collaborate on physical educational facilities, technical and administrative personnel, e-learning systems, and the provision of up-to-date information based on market demand.

This agreement aligns with the Cambodian government's "Vision 2050" and the first phase of the "Pentagonal Strategy," and is expected to serve as an important milestone in establishing an educational foundation for digital transformation and the cultivation of technological talent.

Meanwhile, in October last year, Gwangju University signed an MOU with the University of South Alabama in the United States and will conduct a two-week summer language program for 15 students in July, further expanding its global education network and accelerating the university's globalization and the development of global talent.
