Park Chansung (64), who is accused of murdering an acquaintance he lived with, has been indicted and his personal information has been made public.


On April 25, the Criminal Division 3 of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Heo Sungkyu) announced that Park Chansung had been indicted and detained on charges of murder. Park Chansung is accused of fatally stabbing his acquaintance, identified as Mr. A (in his 60s), at 1:30 a.m. on April 4 in Hodong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. At the time, Park Chansung had been drinking and returned home late at night. He asked Mr. A to open the door, but when Mr. A refused, he broke the glass with a brick, entered the house, and attacked Mr. A with a weapon.


Previously, in 2004, Park was convicted of murdering an acquaintance in Jeonju and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. After his release, he was convicted of special assault for attacking another acquaintance with a weapon in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province in 2022, and was sentenced to two years in prison. He committed the latest offense just nine months after being released.


The prosecution stated that, in accordance with the Act on Disclosure of Personal Information of Suspects of Specific Serious Crimes, Park Chansung's crime qualifies as a specific serious crime. The decision to disclose his personal information was made by the Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee on April 17, taking into account the brutality of the crime's methods, the severity of the harm caused, the sufficiency of evidence, the public interest in disclosure, and the consent of the victim's family.


A prosecution official stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the defendant receives a punishment commensurate with his crime," adding, "We will continue to respond strictly to violent crimes that threaten the lives and safety of the public."


Park Chansung's personal information will be disclosed on the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office website for 30 days, from 1:00 p.m. on April 25 until May 24.
