Executives Replace USIM Cards,
Comprehensive Inspection Conducted
Samsung has reportedly instructed its executives who use SK Telecom, which recently experienced a hacking incident, to promptly replace their USIM cards.
According to the business community on April 25, Samsung recently notified executives at major affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, stating, "All SK users must replace their USIM cards."
As a result, most executives have already completed their USIM replacements, and it is reported that the previous day, each affiliate conducted a comprehensive check to confirm whether the replacements had been carried out.
This measure appears to be based on the assessment that SK Telecom's recommended 'USIM Protection Service' alone is insufficient to fully address concerns about information leakage.
Previously, SK Telecom announced on April 22 that it had detected signs that, at around 11:40 p.m. on April 19, some user USIM-related information had been leaked due to malicious code introduced by a hacker. The leaked information reportedly included each subscriber's unique USIM identification number.
As concerns were raised that hackers could exploit this information to create cloned phones, SK Telecom recommended that its users sign up for the USIM Protection Service, which is available free of charge through T World.
On this day, Yoo Youngsang, CEO of SK Telecom, held an emergency briefing at the company's Euljiro headquarters in Seoul and stated, "I sincerely apologize to our customers and society for the inconvenience and concern caused to those who have trusted and used SK Telecom," adding, "We will implement free USIM card replacements for customers who wish to do so."
