On April 25, Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced that it will support local small business owners by covering card fees up to 500,000 KRW.

Starting April 28, the county will implement the "2025 Small Business Card Fee Support Program." The program provides support based on annual card sales, aiming to help stabilize the operations of local small business owners who are struggling due to increased economic uncertainty and a sharp decline in sales.

The county launched the card fee support program in 2020 to assist small business owners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the program has continued each year, taking into account the growing proportion of card payments. According to a survey by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the use of cards as a payment method in South Jeolla Province increased from 46% in 2020 to 47.7% in 2022.

The support targets 250 small business owners who have both their address and business located in Gokseong from last year up to the announcement date, with annual sales of 300 million KRW or less. Eligible applicants will receive a refund equivalent to 0.5% of their card sales from the previous year, with a maximum support amount of 500,000 KRW. Applications will be accepted for three weeks until May 16, and business owners can apply by visiting the town or township office where their business is located.

Governor Cho Sangrae stated, "Many small business owners are struggling due to declining sales. I hope this card fee support program will help ease the burden for local small business owners, even if only a little." He added, "We will continue to provide attentive support to empower small business owners in the future."
