From May, 29 Universities to Provide Monthly Support of 800,000 to 1.1 Million Won for Science and Engineering Graduate Students

The "Science and Engineering Research Living Allowance," which guarantees master's students in science and engineering 800,000 won per month and doctoral students at least 1.1 million won per month, will be distributed as early as next month.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that it has finalized 29 universities to participate in this year's research living allowance support program and will begin providing support starting in May.

The government will provide support to each university to cover shortfalls in the standard amount, assist in the creation of university account funds, and provide operating expenses for each university.


This year's program was open to applications from 29 universities, including Gachon University, Catholic University, Kangwon National University, Konkuk University, Gyeongsang National University, Korea University, Kwangwoon University, Kongju National University, Changwon National University, Hanbat National University, Daegu Catholic University, Duksung Women's University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Seoul National University, University of Seoul, Sungkyunkwan University, Sungshin Women's University, Sejong University, Soonchunhyang University, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, Inha University, Chonnam National University, Jeju National University, Chungnam National University, Chungbuk National University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Hanyang University. After evaluation, all were confirmed as participating universities.


The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to conduct in-person consultations with the participating universities to identify students who receive less than the standard amount and to establish standard procedures necessary for support. Support for the research living allowance for students at each university will begin after the detailed operational plans are finalized by each institution.


Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jongho stated, "Based on a tripartite cooperation system, we will stably introduce and expand the Korean-style stipend, creating an environment where science and technology talents can conduct research and take on challenges without financial concerns."
