International Marine Experts to Gather on the 29th
to Discuss Cooperation for Coastal and Marine Conservation
A symposium where marine experts from around the world will gather to discuss the scientific foundations of coastal-marine conservation and sustainable management strategies is scheduled to take place at Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) on April 29, 2025.

The International Coastal Science Center (ICSC, Director Ryu Junghyung) and the G-LAMP Project Group at Pukyong National University (Director Kim Youngseok) will host the "2025 International Coastal Science Symposium" at 1:00 p.m. that day in the main conference hall on the first floor of the College of Environmental and Marine Sciences at Pukyong National University.
Under the theme "Connecting Science, Protecting Coasts," the symposium will bring together marine experts from around the world to discuss the scientific foundations of coastal-marine conservation and sustainable management strategies.
Research teams from leading universities in four countries will participate in the symposium, including Pukyong National University, Louisiana State University in the United States, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in China, and the Federal University of Para in Brazil. They will share strategies for responding to global-scale changes in the marine environment and threats to coastal ecosystems, and aim to expand the foundation for global cooperation.
Following an opening address by Ryu Junghyung, Director of ICSC, a total of eight sessions will be held, featuring presentations on a variety of coastal science research achievements. Key topics include: ultra-high-resolution marine disaster information systems, the East Sea coastal erosion restoration project, the Mississippi Delta and natural-human systems, carbon sequestration and changes in coastal wetlands, and extreme weather events and threats to mangrove ecosystems.
In particular, this symposium is drawing attention as a platform for practical cooperation, focusing not only on academic exchange but also on proposing data-driven policies for coastal-marine conservation and developing region-specific implementation strategies.
ICSC, which was jointly established by universities around the world including Pukyong National University, plans to institutionalize this event as an annual symposium and to continuously expand its global network for sustainable coastal management and marine environmental protection.
