On April 25, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the Second Public Housing Integrated Review Committee had conditionally approved the proposed changes to the housing construction plan for the "Seocho Seongdu Village Public Housing District A1 Complex" in the area of 565-2 Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu.

In Seongdu Village (30,350 square meters), a total of 900 apartment units will be built, including 327 Mirinae Housing units and 292 for-sale units, in buildings ranging from two basement levels to a maximum of 20 above-ground floors. In July of last year, the city revised the district unit plan to expand the housing supply plan.

The apartments will come in a variety of sizes, including exclusive areas of 31, 36, 51, and 59 square meters, and will be configured as a social-mix complex that combines rental and for-sale units. The project plan may be subject to future changes.

The project site has long been an area crowded with unauthorized buildings, resulting in landscape damage due to indiscriminate development. It also faces risks of fire and landslides, making it an area in urgent need of residential environment improvement.

Seongdu Village will be developed as a "Gardening City" where residents can encounter a garden every ten steps. From the design stage, the city has planned to preserve the original topography as much as possible, creating seven gardens that connect 15 landscaped courtyards, children's playgrounds, and community sports facilities within the complex.

Community facilities such as fitness centers, libraries, community cafes, daycare centers, and senior centers will be placed on the lower floors of each building and connected to the gardens. Neighborhood living facilities will be established along the outer streets of the complex. The complex will feature pedestrian paths and visual corridors to ensure a sense of openness.

The city plans to obtain approval for the revised housing construction plan in the first half of this year, begin construction in the first half of 2026, announce resident recruitment after 2027, and complete the project in the first half of 2029.

Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "With the approval of the housing construction plan for Seongdu Village A1 Complex in this review, the project has entered full-scale development. We expect that the damaged area at the foot of Umyeonsan Mountain will be transformed into a nature-friendly residential complex, contributing to housing stability and regional revitalization."
