The Department of Food Science and Engineering at Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) has been selected as an operating university for the "Food Tech Contract Department Project," supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation. As a result, the university will establish and operate a new "Food Tech Contract Department."

This year, the Department of Food Science and Engineering at Pusan National University was newly selected as an operating institution for the "Food Tech Contract Department" through an expert evaluation process. The selection was based on the thoroughness of the business plan, the educational environment, and the extent to which the needs of the industry were reflected, among other criteria, in a public call for one new university to participate in the program.

Accordingly, starting from the second semester, the newly established Food Tech Contract Department (Master's program) at Pusan National University's Department of Food Science and Engineering will select 20 students. The program will receive support for student tuition, operational expenses, and funding to address technical challenges faced by companies, with the goal of nurturing professionals in the food tech field. The project period will last until the end of the contract department's operation (2 years, 4 semesters), after which continued support will be determined through further evaluation.

Kim Seonbeom, head of the Department of Food Science and Engineering at Pusan National University, stated, "The food tech industry is a key sector for innovation and future growth in the agri-food industry. The contract department is a model in which companies, universities, and the government collaborate to jointly foster talent," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure the successful operation of the contract department to vitalize the food tech industry."
