Created on Idle Land of Armed Forces Seoul District Hospital
A large-scale public parking lot with a capacity of 178 spaces will open next month in Samcheong-dong and Bukchon, Jongno-gu, Seoul, areas that have long suffered from a severe shortage of parking facilities. Jongno-gu (headed by Mayor Chung Moonhun) announced on the 25th that it will begin operating the Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot (located at 25-1 Samcheong-dong and one additional parcel) starting from May 9, in order to fulfill the long-standing wishes of Samcheong-dong residents and resolve chronic parking difficulties in the area.
Jongno-gu will operate Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot starting from the 9th of next month. Provided by Jongno-gu.
The new parking lot is expected to significantly improve the parking environment in Samcheong-dong and Bukchon, and also address issues such as the deterioration of alleyway scenery and difficulties with fire truck access.
Located at the entrance of Samcheong Park, the Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot has a total floor area of 5,706 square meters and is built on two underground levels. It offers 178 parking spaces for both standard and disabled vehicles, and is equipped with a parking management system, closed-circuit (CC) TV, and other safety facilities.
Samcheong-dong and Bukchon Hanok Village, both iconic tourist destinations in Seoul, are areas with high parking demand due to the mix of art museums, museums, various cultural and commercial facilities, and residential areas, as well as heavy foot traffic. There has been an urgent need to build a parking lot to protect residents' right to live in the area, prevent safety accidents, and respond to emergencies. In response, the district government signed a business agreement with the Armed Forces Seoul District Hospital to convert part of the hospital's land into a parking lot and open it to the public.
The parking lot will be operated on a trial basis for residents and visitors from May 9 to May 15, and from May 16 onward, it will be managed under a resident-priority parking system. For more details, residents can call the Parking Business Team at the Jongno-gu Facilities Management Corporation or visit the Jongno-gu Resident Priority Parking website.
Jongno-gu Mayor Chung Moonhun stated, "The establishment of the Samcheongje 1 Public Parking Lot is a model case of cooperation between local government and military institutions to resolve parking shortages," and added, "We will continue to develop effective measures to alleviate urban parking shortages and work to expand social infrastructure, including public parking lots, to make residents' lives more convenient."
