A fugitive wanted for operating an illegal gambling site worth several hundred billion won was apprehended by police patrolling near a velodrome.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Mobile Patrol Unit announced on the 25th that it had arrested Mr. A (37), the operator of the illegal gambling site, in the area around Sillim Station in Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
On the 23rd, police became suspicious when they noticed that the vehicle driven by Mr. A was repeatedly circling the area near the velodrome. Upon checking, they confirmed that it was a wanted vehicle.
Police ordered Mr. A to stop, but he refused to comply. After a pursuit of approximately 500 meters, they managed to force him to stop and exit the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, police confirmed that Mr. A had been under investigation for operating an illegal gambling site worth approximately 800 billion won over a three-year period from 2022 to 2024. He had fled during the investigation and was listed as a wanted person last month.
The police transferred Mr. A to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, which had been in charge of the investigation.
