"Gratitude Ceremony" Held for Wildfire Victims and Volunteers
Minister Yoo Inchon of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism visited Andong, Gyeongbuk from April 23 to 24 to discuss measures for restoring tourism in areas recently affected by large-scale wildfires. This visit marked the launch of the "Travel+Companion Campaign" aimed at revitalizing the local economy.
Minister Yoo visited Andong Jjimdak Alley, Woryeonggyo Bridge, and Hahoe Village, where he met with tourism industry representatives and local merchants to discuss strategies for developing tourism products and improving infrastructure to boost local tourism.
He also reviewed plans to promote nighttime tourism utilizing cultural heritage sites, such as the "Woryeong Night Walk."
On April 24, Minister Yoo held a meeting with tourism industry stakeholders at Hahoe Village in Andong to assess the decline in the tourism sector following the wildfire damage. During the meeting, practical measures for tourism recovery were discussed.
Minister Yoo stated, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will cooperate with the tourism industry to ensure rapid recovery and revitalization of tourism in wildfire-affected areas."
Additionally, on the same day, a "Gratitude Ceremony" was held at the Welfare Center in Imha-myeon for wildfire victims and volunteers, where signature foods from local cultural tourism festivals were served, providing a warm moment of comfort.
Andong Mayor Kwon Gichang said, "Although the local tourism industry suffered significant damage from the large-scale wildfires, we will recover quickly by attracting tourists," adding, "Visiting Andong is a way to support the region."
