AliExpress, Temu, and Now the 'Amazon of China'? C-Commerce Accelerates Its Invasion of Korea

Jingdong.com Establishes Its Own Logistics Centers in Korea
12-Hour Delivery Service Launched in Select Areas of the Seoul Metropolitan Region

As Chinese e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress, Temu, and Shein continue to target the Korean market, Jingdong.com, regarded as China's largest e-commerce company, is also making its entry into Korea more concrete. As a preliminary step, the company is establishing its own logistics centers in Korea and plans to launch a 12-hour delivery service in certain areas of the Seoul metropolitan region.

According to Jingdong.com on April 24, Jingdong Korea, the Korean subsidiary of Jingdong Logistics, has recently opened self-operated logistics centers in Incheon and Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. These centers will provide 3PL (third-party logistics) and fulfillment services to Korean customers, and will offer delivery within as little as 12 hours in Seoul and select areas of Gyeonggi Province.

The Icheon center, dedicated to pet commerce companies, has introduced advanced automation equipment such as automatic packaging and wrapping machines to maximize picking and packing efficiency. In particular, for pet food?where expiration date management is crucial?the intelligent warehouse management system enables fast delivery. The AI-based space optimization system automatically relocates popular products to high-turnover locations and rapidly adjusts storage structures by reflecting real-time demand forecasting data.

The Incheon logistics center will serve as a dedicated warehouse for 3PL services for a major American global consumer goods brand and for the export operations of domestic beauty companies.

While smaller Chinese logistics companies have previously handled Korean logistics operations for Chinese e-commerce platforms like AliExpress and Temu, Jingdong is the first to establish and directly operate its own logistics centers in Korea. Temu leases a logistics center in Gimpo and outsources operations to a logistics company, while AliExpress is planning to open its own logistics center.

Industry insiders view Jingdong Logistics' acquisition of domestic logistics centers as a preparatory move for Jingdong.com's entry into the Korean e-commerce market. AliExpress and Temu, which entered the Korean market before Jingdong, have been targeting Korean consumers who prefer high cost-effectiveness. According to retail analytics service WiseApp Retail, as of last month, AliExpress ranked second in monthly active users (MAU) with 9,129,000, following Coupang (33,618,000), while Temu ranked fourth with 8,307,000 users.

Jingdong Logistics also operates cross-border direct sales (reverse direct purchase) logistics services, providing Korean products to Chinese consumers through Jingdong Worldwide, Jingdong.com's global e-commerce platform. By implementing a "triple policy" of zero tariffs, no service fees, and logistics subsidies, the company lowers entry barriers for Korean brands into the Chinese market and offers a one-stop solution from warehousing to sales and delivery.

A Jingdong Korea representative stated, "Korean e-commerce customers have high expectations for fast delivery, and flexibility and precision in logistics operations are key competitive factors. Based on Jingdong's automation technology and global logistics expertise, we aim to make a tangible contribution to the growth of domestic brands and customer satisfaction."

Meanwhile, Jingdong is ranked 47th among the Fortune Global 500 companies and is often referred to as the 'Amazon of China.' The company delivers over 90% of its retail orders within 24 hours. Jingdong Logistics operates more than 100 overseas warehouses in over 19 countries, providing '2-3 day international delivery services' or, in some regions, 'one-day delivery services' in major countries such as the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea.
