On April 24, Choi Giwon, the sole judge of Criminal Division 10 at the Seoul Northern District Court, issued an arrest warrant for a suspect identified as A after holding a pre-arrest detention hearing on charges of murder. Judge Choi stated that the warrant was issued due to concerns that the suspect might attempt to flee.
At around 6:20 p.m. on April 22, A was arrested at the scene after stabbing an employee and a passerby with a weapon inside a mart near Mia Station in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. A, who appeared wearing hospital patient clothing from a nearby hospital, drank alcohol inside the mart just before the crime, tore open the packaging of a displayed weapon, and used it to commit the attack. After the incident, A hid the weapon among a pile of snacks on the store shelves, moved to a nearby alley, smoked a cigarette, and called the police emergency number 112. The police applied for an arrest warrant for A the previous day.
