Through Voices from the Field
The Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (headed by Jung Jongdeuk) held the "Foreign Safety Leader Meeting in Shipbuilding Industry" on April 24 at Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean. In particular, following the deaths of two foreign workers at shipbuilding sites last year, the importance of safety management for foreign workers has become even more emphasized. This meeting was arranged to directly listen to the voices from the field.
Foreign safety leaders were designated from five nationalities: Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand. These leaders are involved in a variety of production processes, including welding, fitting, and painting.
Through this event, the importance of safety management for foreign workers was highlighted. The foreign workers actively shared their experiences of dangerous situations encountered during work, the current state of safety management at the sites, and areas in need of improvement.
Jung Jongdeuk, head of the headquarters, stated, "The experiences and suggestions shared directly by foreign workers will serve as an important foundation for effectively promoting accident prevention initiatives in the shipbuilding industry." He also pledged to strengthen communication with the field and focus efforts on creating a safer working environment.
