Han: "Discussing Unification in Advance Clouds the Primary"
Han Donghoon, former leader and preliminary candidate for the People Power Party presidential nomination, said on the 24th regarding a potential unification with Acting President and Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, "To win, we must do whatever it takes, but discussing this in advance during the primary does not help."
Han made these remarks in response to a related question during a one-on-one debate with former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo, held at the Channel A Studio in Jongno, Seoul, on this day.
On the afternoon of the 24th, at the Dong-A Media Center Channel A Open Studio in Jongno, Kim Moonsoo and Han Donghoon, candidates who advanced to the second round of the People Power Party presidential primary, were having a conversation before the debate. The one-on-one debates will continue until tomorrow in a format where the four candidates advancing to the second round face off one-on-one. The matchups were decided at the 'Media Day' event the previous day, where candidates Kim Moonsoo, Ahn Cheolsoo, Han Donghoon, and Hong Junpyo each selected their one-on-one debate opponents in order. Han stated, "I will unite our strength and do whatever is necessary to win," but also said, "It is not appropriate for Acting President Han, who is reasonable and rational, to allow the primary to become muddled because of what people around him are saying."
In contrast, former Minister Kim commented on the possibility of unification with Acting President Han, saying, "To defeat former leader Lee Jaemyung, everyone must unite, whether it is Han Ducksoo or Kim Ducksoo." However, he added, "I know Acting President Han well, and I do not think he will make any unreasonable statements," suggesting the possibility of his candidacy.
