"Ensuring a Thorough 24-Hour Early Warning Posture"
On April 24, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Kim Myungsoo visited the firing unit for the Korean Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile (KTSSM), an advanced precision-guided weapon, to inspect operational readiness and encourage the troops carrying out their missions.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chairman Kim visited the KTSSM firing unit and the Central Region Missile and Space Surveillance Unit on this day. The KTSSM is a guided weapon developed and deployed to proactively counter North Korea's long-range artillery threats, while the Central Region Missile and Space Surveillance Unit is responsible for ballistic missile monitoring missions.
This on-site inspection by Chairman Kim was conducted to check preparedness so that strategic and operational superiority over the enemy can be maintained under any circumstances, and to encourage the service members who are dedicated to national defense and the safety of the people.
Chairman Kim inspected the KTSSM firing unit’s counter-fire operation readiness and emphasized, “In order to protect the lives and property of our people from the enemy in times of crisis, it is essential to maintain thorough operational preparation and realistic training during peacetime. This will allow us to respond without hesitation with overwhelming strikes to deter enemy provocations and to maintain the capability to secure operational initiative on the battlefield.”
At the Central Region Missile and Space Surveillance Unit, Chairman Kim also checked the real-time surveillance posture against ballistic missile threats on the Korean Peninsula and stated, “This is the starting point of the Korean Air and Missile Defense system (KAMD). Please ensure the maintenance of a 24-hour early warning posture capable of quickly detecting and disseminating information on any enemy missile.”
