On April 24, 301 university professors from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council to declare their support for Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party primary candidate.

Professors from Chosun University, Honam University, Gwangju University, Mokpo University, Suncheon University, and others stated, "Candidate Lee is the right person to respond flexibly and proactively to the turbulent domestic and international situation following the 12·3 Martial Law Incident," and added, "We will fully support Lee Jae Myung's national overhaul and journey of state innovation, as he combines extensive public administration experience with decisiveness and strong drive."

The professors emphasized, "A national leader is needed who can comfort and wipe away the pain and tears of the socially disadvantaged," and assessed, "Candidate Lee demonstrated warm inclusiveness toward the socially disadvantaged during his career as a human rights lawyer."

The professors also declared, "We will unite with Candidate Lee so that every member of the national community can lead a happy life," and stressed, "We will spare no effort in providing all possible support, including policy proposals, to ensure his election as the 21st President of the Republic of Korea."
