Hongseong Health Center Expands Free Shingles Vaccination Program Hongseong County Health Center Building

The Hongseong County Health Center in South Chungcheong Province announced on April 24 that it will expand the eligibility for free shingles vaccinations this year.

The free vaccination is available to residents who have been registered and living in Hongseong County for at least one year and are aged 65 or older, provided they have not previously received a shingles vaccination. Those with a prior history of shingles vaccination are excluded from the program.

In particular, starting this year, the eligibility will be expanded to include unvaccinated recipients of the Basic Livelihood Security Program and those in the second-lowest income bracket who are aged 60 or older (born on or before December 31, 1965).

Those wishing to receive the vaccination should bring identification or documents verifying their eligibility and visit the county health center, a branch office, or a community health clinic.

An official from the county health center stated, "This year's free shingles vaccination program will be conducted from May 1 to May 9. However, the start date may vary at township and village health branch offices or community health clinics, so please check the schedule before visiting."

Meanwhile, shingles is a disease caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which remains dormant in the body. It typically results in a rash and characteristic blistering lesions on the skin within several days, accompanied by pain in the affected area.
