Gwangmyeong Hakon District Cultural Park Management Building to Feature Korea's First RE200 Application

Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) will construct the nation’s first building with an energy self-sufficiency rate of 200% (RE200).

On April 23, at the 'Photovoltaic Market Insight (PVMI) 2025' event held at Daegu EXCO, GH announced that it would build the management building at Gwangmyeong Hakon District Cultural Park in Gahak-dong, Gwangmyeong-si as an RE200 structure. To date, there are no buildings in Korea that have achieved RE200.

To achieve RE200, GH will maximize renewable energy production by introducing innovative passive and active energy-saving technologies, including not only solar power generation but also a heating and cooling system that utilizes surplus groundwater discharged from the Sinansan Line double-track railway. Any surplus energy generated after building operation will be used for electric vehicle charging stations, park lighting, and community facilities.

The Gwangmyeong Hakon District project, implemented by GH, is a public housing project supplying 4,317 households on a 684,000-square-meter site in Gahak-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, which broke ground in November last year. The management building, with a total floor area of 660 square meters, will include exhibition spaces for promoting renewable energy, as well as community amenities such as a resident cafe and a sky observatory.

Lee Jongseon, acting president of GH, said, "GH will actively introduce RE200 models and other zero-energy technologies to other project sites under development, utilizing renewable energy technologies throughout all aspects of our projects."
