The National Police Agency announced on April 24 that it will implement a special crime prevention reinforcement period from April 28 to June 8.
Typically, the police have conducted special crime prevention activities on a regular basis during holidays such as Chuseok and Seollal. However, in response to growing public anxiety following incidents such as the arson in Bongcheon-dong and the knife attack at Mia Station, the police have decided to launch an all-out response.
Metropolitan and provincial police agencies, as well as local police stations, will analyze public safety conditions and establish their own plans tailored to local circumstances. Full-scale activities will begin next week. Crime-prone locations identified in advance will be thoroughly inspected by the Crime Prevention Diagnosis Team, Mobile Patrol Unit, and local police officers.
A police official stated, "At a time when ensuring the peaceful daily lives of the public is more important than ever, we are operating this special crime prevention reinforcement period," adding, "All related departments will make every effort to maintain public safety and order."
