Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province has begun full-scale demolition of buildings, including homes, and the disposal of wildfire waste in the areas of Yaksutang and Geodae-ri in Cheongsong-eup, Jungpyeong-ri, Byeongbu-ri, and Jigyeong-ri in Pacheon-myeon, and Gigok-ri, Goejeong 1-ri, and Goejeong 2-ri in Jinbo-myeon, which suffered extensive damage from a large-scale wildfire.
Cheongsong County has mobilized eight local companies licensed for structural demolition and asbestos removal. Starting with on-site inspections and identification of demolition items on April 23, the county will proceed with slate sorting and priority processing from April 24 to April 25, followed by the deployment of equipment to launch full-scale demolition operations.
The demolition will be carried out sequentially by village. After the initial villages are demolished, the next target villages will be designated by comprehensively considering the number of households and the demolition consent rate in the remaining villages.
According to NDMS input data, the wildfire generated approximately 445,000 tons of waste, and the disposal cost alone is expected to reach about 38 billion won.
As the demolition of homes accelerates, waste such as waste concrete, mixed construction waste, waste synthetic resins, and designated waste will be sorted and processed. In particular, designated waste such as slate and waste from home demolitions will be dismantled and sorted on site.
For fire-related waste not included in the home demolitions, waste under 5 tons will be actively collected through temporary bulk household waste fee reductions, while waste over 5 tons will be transported to a temporary transfer station for sorting and processing.
County Governor Yoon Kyunghee stated, "We will do our utmost in the recovery efforts so that residents who suffered great damage from the wildfire can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
